july with jesus

The July with Jesus Community Challenge on the Hallow App is a 10-day prayer challenge that takes you through meditations on some of the most well-known parables Jesus taught during his time on earth. This challenge is being led by Jonathan Roumie, the actor who portrays Jesus in the #1 streaming series, The Chosen. Each day, hear the Gospel reading of one of the Parables of Jesus and meditate on its meaning and significance in your life. What is Jesus saying to you, today, through these parables?

Here is an excerpt from one of the meditations on the Parable of the Prodigal Son:

But just as the father runs to the younger son, he also seeks out the elder son, inviting him into the celebration. When he is met with the older son’s indignation, the father first addresses him, saying, “My son.” He reminds him of their relationship and his belonging. Then he reaches out again with mercy and compassion, saying to him, “You are here with me always, everything I have is yours.”

“You are here with me always, everything I have is yours.” This kind of coming home can be harder than that of the younger son. It can be hard to let our hearts be softened by God’s love, especially when we think we are in control and have it all together. Have you ever felt like the elder son? Struggling to feel at home in God’s love?
