QUESTION OR COMMON OBJECTION:

The Eucharist looks like bread. How can it be the Body of Christ?

CATHOLIC ANSWER:

Though the Eucharistic host still looks like bread after it has been consecrated at Mass, it has truly become the body of Christ. If God can create the universe from nothing, he can certainly make a piece of bread into the living body of Jesus.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread he will live for ever….”

John 6:51

Jesus gave us the Eucharist so that he could remain with us in a special way. When we receive Holy Communion we receive Jesus’ very life into our souls and are strengthened in his grace to do his will.
