Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you, but do so with gentleness and reverence.”

Jesus Christ

Salvation

QUESTION OR COMMON OBJECTION:

Jesus says he is the only way to heaven.  Does this mean that only Christians can go to heaven?

CATHOLIC ANSWER:

All salvation comes from Jesus through his Church.  But a person who never knows Jesus can be saved if he truly seeks to know, love, and serve God.  This salvation, though, still comes through the grace of Christ.

This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

1 Timothy 2:3-4

Through Baptism, Christians are given the grace to see the light of Christ more clearly.  Even though non-Christians may be saved, it is much more difficult because they do not have the sacraments, the Bible, or the teachings of the Catholic Church.  We must continue to help others find Jesus.

PRAYER

Let us pray.

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.

Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel, by Reni Guido, 1635, 17th Century, originally oil on silk. St. Michael stepping on Devil’s head while holding his sword.

It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you.”

Saint John Paul II, pope

Jesus, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life (cf. John 6:68).

Be not afraid!  And may the peace of Christ be with you and your loved ones today and always.  Holy Family, pray for us.  Amen.
