What is a Christian?

QUESTION OR COMMON OBJECTION:

You have to be either a Catholic or a Christian. You can’t be both.

CATHOLIC ANSWER:

Christian means “follower of Christ.” A Catholic is a follower of Christ and a baptized member of the one body of believers that St. Paul spoke of…

For in one spirit we were all baptized into one body.”

To be fully Christian is to be Catholic because it is the faith established by Jesus and the one to which he gave his authority. In the Catholic Church we find (is the deposit of) the fullness of the Christian faith.
