Saints Alive! | St. Marcellin Champagnat

Born to a peasant family, illiterate due to the collapse of education and in the wake of destruction of the French Revolution, St. Marcellin Champagnat devoted himself to the poor, uneducated and illiterate, and to society's neglected. He founded the Little Brothers of Mary, now known as The Marists Brothers. Just a small and fledgling group at its founding, his order had 48 establishments with 278 Brothers in France at this saint's death. Today there are over 5,100 Brothers in over 80 countries carrying on the work of this man devoted to the love of Mary and her Son in the face of children and the poor.
