easter Sunday

On Easter Sunday the Church celebrates the Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from the dead, the greatest feast of the liturgical year. For this purpose Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was sent into the world. Through the celebration of this feast Christians also anticipate the resurrection of their own glorified bodies at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. It is customary for Christians to joyfully proclaim to one another, “He is risen!” with the response, “He is risen, indeed!”

God is faithful. What he promised of old, he has brought to fulfillment: “Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed,” and he has truly risen, just as he said. “We are witnesses” of these things, Peter proclaims, and we are, too, reveling in the same grace communicated by the same Christ through the same Church. Easter confirms that salvation is real and present to us now—today and forever. Love now reigns definitively. Death and sin are overcome. Christ’s Resurrection is our resurrection, for he has opened for us the gates of eternal life. It is on this truth that we stake our whole lives. Filled with the glory of Christ’s Easter triumph, we cannot help but cry out: Alleluia!”
