QUESTION OR COMMON OBJECTION:

It says in 1 John 5:13 that we can know we have eternal life.

CATHOLIC ANSWER:

Yes, but the whole book of 1 John says that the way we can know is if we keep God’s commands.

The way we may be sure that we know him is to keep his commandments.”

We can’t proclaim Jesus as Lord and then not obey him. Obedience is necessary for salvation.
